Batman has always been my favourite DC hero. I am a Marvel guy at heart.

The artwork from the good old days. Does not compare to today in my opinion.
But the story is just as strong.

art was awesome, colours still vibrant on e-ink which is always a plus (although not exactly something the colourist would have been thinking about in 1988), but this was more a gordon and also catwoman origin story? still a bit confused why bruce wayne became batman. not very focused on batman at all so im not entirely sure why this is hailed as The Definitive Batman Backstory.
still worth a read

Good comic but unfortunately written before the “women are people” era. Like its good, but not “handle the nuance of teenage prostitutes as characters” good

Frank Miller puts a great take on Batman's origins. We all know Bruce Wayne's parents were murdered, and he vowed to fight crime and so on, but we don't tend to see the steps in between. Watching Batman stumble through his first few days on the job makes the hero look all the more vulnerable and realistic.

The artwork matchest the story quite well. The style seems markedly older, which mirrors the nature of the story.

i might be getting into batman… it’s a pretty well introduction. enjoyed gordon’s storyline but had trouble following along with the actual crime plot of the story. plus, bruce/batman’s inner dialogue being in cursive took me out everytime cause i had to squint and decipher what in the world he was saying. but i suppose it made sense at the time, since not teaching children cursive in school is a development that happened only a decade or so ago.
