⭐️⭐️ TELL ME THE TRUTH by Kiersten Modglin (Narrated by Devon Sorvari)

GENRE: Adult Thriller

I really think KM needs to slow down. She seems to crank these books out like there’s no tomorrow. She needs to step back and think about whether what she's writing makes sense. I listened to this book and listened to about half of it with my 22-year-old son in the car, driving him home from college for the summer. I kept huffing and puffing and groaning. He asked me what was wrong and I said, “this book!” He said, “it’s fake!” “But it should be realistic!” I said.

There were so many things that made me roll my eyes while listening to it. Joe was a doltish jerk. So the summary of this story is that Edith’s husband Joe cheated on her about a year ago. She recently came across some nudey photos and a dating app on his phone which he claims he knows nothing about. **Insert eyeroll for stupid husband.** She doesn’t believe him. So here’s the jerk part…he gets mad at her for not believing him. And not just once. Basically the whole first 75% of the book is her wishy washy thoughts and conversations with her best friend Dan wondering if he’s lying and then Joe being mad because she doesn’t believe him. It’s like Fred Flintstone trying to drive a car…the story just spins in place.
Spoiler Besides Joe’s incessant anger at her disbelief, he manipulates her by giving her his phone, buying her things, taking her on an a pretentious getaway (where she calls in sick for two days to a brand new job), and forces her to have sex even though she blatantly tells him she’s sick. She finds a hidden photo of him with his dead ex-wife (this appears out of the blue) and she doesn’t know who she is. How do you not know what your husband’s ex-wife looks like…they aren’t that old? Other annoying occurrences : she takes a leave from her retail job to stalk her husband's lover by getting a job at the restaurant she works at--which is right down the street--and no one from her retail job ever comes in? She thinks she’s pregnant because she’s three days late, Joe is mad and thinks it’s completely impossible because she’s on the pill, that she planned this to trap him (they are married and he keeps repeatedly telling her she is all he needs and wants), and she tells him he can leave and have nothing to do with the baby. Really? This is a lot of nonsense to unpack in about a paragraph of the book. Now let's talk about the ending. I liked the twist. That’s all. The execution was lacking. Joe’s ridiculous way of handling the revelation was so anger-inducing! And the way that it unfolded -- gah! It was like she forgot to tell us what happened and then had the characters reveal a little at a time. I think it was written like Amma and Edith got together and planned what was happening behind our backs. And got away scott-free. It was confusing.

I really want to like KM because I see people positively talking about her books all the time. But I need her to stop and think about what she’s writing. I’m not trying to be bossy or harsh. I just feel like she makes a rough draft, turns it in, her editors stamp their approval without reading, it goes to press, and is popular because it has her name on it. This isn’t my first KM book and I’ll give her another try because they are fairly fast, and I really do want to know what the twisty ending is going to be. Am I being too picky?

The narrator did a pretty good job of reading the book--except for when she read Dan’s part--that accent was just too much! :)

Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with an audiobook ARC of this title for review.

Another great read by Kiersten Modglin!

“Tell Me The Truth” is about Edith and her husband Joe. When Edith finds photos of another woman on Joe’s phone, she will do everything to get to the bottom of it. Is Joe cheating? Is Edith crazy? What exactly is going on behind the scene of this relatively new marriage?

This book was an easy, fast-paced read for me. I liked the characters, especially Edith’s best friend Dan. We seriously all need a Dan in our lives. I’m pretty good at deciphering endings, but I really wasn’t sure how this one was going to wind up!

“Tell Me The Truth” is being released tomorrow, March 1st! If you’re looking for a nice, easy yet exciting read, go snag this one!

Thanks to Kiersten for my ARC.

This is the fourth book I have read by @kierstenmodglinauthor this year and I have loved them all! Her newest novel is being released in audiobook format in May and it is not to be missed! The domestic drama thriller is fast paced and has a terrific twist at the end! I finished this read in one day 😃 I recommend listening to this audiobook to find out what Edith’s husband is hiding from her!

Thank you @netgalley and @dreamscape_media for allowing me to listen to this audiobook ahead of publication in exchange for my honest review.
