I went into this book right after reading The Amendment and The Arrangement, which were insanely thrilling stories. My expectations were high and sadly the story fell a little flat. Sure there were some twists that I didn’t see coming and suspense, but nothing that WOWed me. After looking at other reviews, it’s clear I’m in the minority, so if you like this author’s work and want a story filled with secrets, lies and gaslighting, try this one! It’s also very short! The audiobook was only 6 hours.

Short, quick read. I can’t say too much without giving away major points. I will, however, say that the end gave me major Spice Girl vibes—a la “If you wanna be my lover…”

Devoured this in 3 hours! A short, twisty read with a cheating spouse trope. My first book by this author, and I’m immediately jumping into the next!
If you’re craving a fast paced thriller with realistic happenings—-this one’s for you!

I don't want to give anything away, but I can say that this was a fast-paced domestic suspense that I kept eagerly coming back to. I found the characters believable and the situation all too familiar: a wife who is certain her husband is cheating, while he has a sensible explanation for just about everything.
Is Edith crazy? She's definitely lacking in common sense and needs a boost of self esteem. Has she let Joe's previous transgression taint her view of him and his trustworthiness? Or is Joe really a perpetual cheater? Edith's creative searches for the truth will likely destroy her marriage, whether Joe is lying or isn't, and it's a wild ride to find out who is really hiding what.
Five stars because I found it so compelling and easy to read, but I get how some people might rate it lower because the gaslighting husband thriller is not original and has kind of been overdone in recent years.

This was decent! I couldn’t stand the main character but I was definitely not expecting the ending. Everything tied up veryyyyyy nicely
Kiersten is a great author. I did not see the ending coming in that way but I had a feeling about how part of the twist would go. Would have been four stars but the main character Edith drove me nuts. She just droned on and on and was almost intentionally ignorant.
Not a "wow," but a good book
After reading the Amendment series, I was ready for the same level of suspense from Modglin, but the plotline of this novel was too easy to figure out. At times, I found myself annoyed with the main character, especially her self-deprecation. I know this was supposed to enforce the idea that she was subjected to emotional abuse by her husband, but it only served to make it difficult to understand why she never put the pieces together before. All that snooping, and you never looked in your closet?
