After Lord Crane's immediate family dies from suicide, Crane returns to England after spending over a decade in China. He arrives only to be plagued by thoughts of wanting to kill himself. To help fix what's happening to him, he seeks out an English Shaman, Practitioner Stephen Day. Only things are more complicated than Lord Crane thought.

I wasn't expecting much from this one; I am happily surprised. I'm going to continue the series.

This was such an enjoyable read, I found myself loving the characters much more than I expected. And the author has created such a unique and interesting magic system, though I'd appreciate more details on it.
