Jennifer has done it again! The romance is more mature (just a warning) but it was beautiful and heartbreaking and I NEED THE NEXT BOOK NOW. I just devoured this book in one day. It was SOOOO GOOD!!!! And I love the whole demon and gargoyle type things it was super unique and a lot of fun to read! Roth....oh god don't get me started. I want one. I need one. Where is my Roth?

Wow. This was quit the cliff hanger. I did not want it to end. So much so that I stayed up way too late to finish it, but who cares about staying up 24 hours for the cause a great book.

Plot was decent paced. Not too slow and not too rushed. The tensions between the characters just made me want to scream.

4.5
The end of this book about did me in. Roth, Roth, Roth. Sigh.
ps- I love Bambi!

So I'm a bit torn about the rating for this book as my emotions are a bit torn as well. I did like this book and it's made me eager to read the next. But at the same time I felt it was a bit cliche.

I liked Layla. She was a pretty good character. I felt for her when she found out who her parents were. I felt particularly bad when she found out that Elijah was her father and Petr her half brother. That was somehow worse than her finding out her mother is the 'mother' of all demons/evil and that her mother was trapped in Hell.

I liked Roth even if he was slightly stereotypical for a demon posing as a human. I liked the tongue ring although I don't know how Layla missed that until her kissed her. My experience is that you can usually see them whenever the person talks.

I also liked Zayne although that whole starcrossed lovers bit while eventually wear on me. I hope he ends up with Danika.

I did not really like Abbot although I don't think I was suppose to at least till towards the end.

The whole warden and demon thing was somewhat new and I liked the author's take on it.

I'm looking forward to the next book! :)

Edit:

I have about the same feelings as I did before. I think I'm even going to remove a star. It's about a 3.5 for me now. I'm sadly a bit more cynical this year. :/

My thoughts about Layla are pretty much the same. I still find Petr creepy and weird.

The tongue ring thing is still the same. How did she miss that? And where is his other piercing? I'm VERY curious now. lol.

4 stars!!

“People with the purest souls are capable of the greatest evils.”

Layla just wants to be a regular girl-but when you have a kiss that kills anything with a soul.... her wish for her normal life- is everything BUT normal. Being half demon and half gargoyle, Layla has abilities no one else has.

Raised by the Wardens- a group of Gargoyles who hunt demons- Layla tries to fit in. But that means sometimes she has to hide that side of herself- Especially when it comes to Zayne- her off limits, gorgeous Warden she lives with.

Then she meets Roth—a tattooed, sinfully hot demon who claims to know all her secrets. Layla knows she should stay away, but she's not sure she wants to—especially when that whole no-kissing thing isn't an issue, considering Roth has no soul.

Layla tries to fly under the radar- but when she is accused of being the reason that demons are uprising- she finds herself faced with losing the things closest to her.

I am a little behind on this series!! But I absolutely LOVE Jennifer Armentrouts writing! There is just something about the way she delivers the dialogue that always keeps me invested. Her books always have humor in them and they are corny but I just love all the jokes and banter between characters.

I really liked Layla as an MC. She has a lot of abilities that could totally make her a bad ass- but the thing I like about her is she is completely normal and doesn't know shes cool if that makes sense. She is always learning something new about herself and learning how to deal with it all.

Roth and Zayne... SIGH- So far for book 1 I am totally rooting for Roth just because hes hilarious and I think he is what Layla needs. Zayne really annoyed me in this book and I dont know why. He just seemed like a creep for the first half of the book then he started to grow on me. Im looking forward to seeing where these relationships go and if they blossom.

Overall I really enjoyed this installment and look forward to the rest of the series and to see if these characters do any growing!!
