Okay so this book came out in 2014.
I need to be mindful that first of all JLA’s writing has gotten exponentially better. I also really enjoyed this book and obviously flew three the end. But some parts were corny and cringey. Did I keep reading yes. I just acted like I didn’t read those parts. This book didn’t feel mature it just felt like teenage me would love it. Either way super entertaining.
Roth is my dude. Love him. Layla is ehhh...she’s so speshuuuul but also a woe is me type of girl and I’m usually in support more of strong female characters. I didn’t find anything particularly interesting about Zayne besides the fact that he’s a gargoyle...Warden. So yeah I will continue reading this and hope that the books get better (corniness left out).

Look, I'm not proud of how much I enjoyed this. Full of tropes, absolutely predictable but perfectly nostalgic of all my favourite highschool trilogies.
I LOVED THIS BOOK SO MUCH.
This was so amazing I loved the love triangle it really messed with my head like i want Roth and Layla but i also want Zayne and Layla. I love all of these characters and the plot line was incredible I was just so worried about who she was going to go with. But when Roth went back to hell i was so upset and when he took Zaynes place so he and her could get together. I was so upset but this book is a must read you should all read it

Jennifer L. Armentrout always succeeds at getting me out of reading slumps. Her books are always so much fun, sexy, and straightforward. The worlds are easy to understand and the characters are relatable in the best of ways.
I read this one after reading an ARC for the spin off series she is currently publishing, not knowing it was a spin off. Once I devoured that ARC I had to read the original series. Thus my reading extravaganza where I couldn't put this one down began.
Layla is our MC. She's a down-to-earth half demon half warden (gargoyle people who protect humans from demons). Her growth through this book was very honest and well developed. She has major moments of self-deprecation, but also moments of clarity about who she truly is. She can be a sassy badass, but also a very empathetic and caring girl.
And then there are the two love interests. A pure of heart Warden warrior, and a sassy and devilish powerful demon. Yes, this is a love triangle. But it is so much more than that. I personally am not a fan of love triangles, I believe, in the end, the heroine ends up either looking a tad dumb or like a bad person. Never once was I frustrated with the triangle in this book. I care about each of the boys (not to mention both are swoon-worthy in their own different ways) and whoever she ends up with at the end of the trilogy, I know I'll be happy either way. (I already know who is chosen because I read that spin off ARC, like an idiot). Even already knowing, though, I am still thoroughly enjoying this tension and ride Armentrout sends Layla on.
If you like fun urban/paranormal new adult fantasy, definitely give this series a go!
