This was fantastic.  Elodie Hart does not get the hype she deserves.  I honestly had NO idea how she'd redeem this MMC after what he did, but she did and she did it well.  It would have been a 5 star read but something about the FMM fell flat for me-- I don't know if I truly knew her personality beyond being the mother to a sick child (maybe the point?).

The basic premise is dumb. Based on the character we are presented with it makes zero sense. Use the friend’s money. Duh.
That said I really liked the last third of the story. Brendan’s come to Jesus moment felt real and I liked the development of his pursuit of forgiveness. That’s why it got a 3.

Marlowe Winters & Brendan Sullivan.
The premise of this book was so Pretty Woman. I had read Audacity so I knew Marlowe and Brendan were getting their own book. This book did not disappoint. What I did not expect was how much angst there was, and how much it made me sob. I cried so much in the last 25% of the book. Brendan had humiliated Marlowe and treated her badly. He had a lot of groveling and making up to do. And he rose to the occasion. Was it over the top and fairytale-ish? Of course. But did Marlowe and Tabby deserve it after all they’ve been through? Absolutely! We’re not reading romance for realistic portrayals here. We’re in it for the escape and fantasy. But also, lots of everyday problems can be solved when you have a ton of money to throw around. I appreciate the fact that Elodie Hart made an effort not to portray Brendan as the rich billionaire savior who swooped in, but that he needed a purpose and Marlowe and Tabby saved him too. It’s the ultimate wish-fulfillment fantasy and sometimes that’s the escape we need.

This was an interesting mix of total smut and heartbreaking story. It pushed the boundaries of MMC being a total asshole but he did a pretty good job redeeming himself.
