Honestly i want so badly not to like this because it's full of cliches, some of them pretty toxic. But this is some excellent trash. The British accent is very dick van dyke though. I might read the other books if I have nothing better to do.
One good thing about reading a series years after it came out - I can dive into the next one immediately!
Cat and Bones owns my heart and soul, tbh. I loved everything (almost) about this book.
Cat is a bit of a naive, pouty, angry small town woman with a stick up her ass about vampires. With all right, since her mom has drilled into her the dangers and evil about them. She grows on you, though. There's a lot of prejudice for her to work through and she doesn't fall on Bones magic stick *smirk* as soon as he shows up. But she does open her mind, bit by bit, and starts to question what she's been taught. In the end, I'm rooting for her all I can.
Bones is amazing in every way, that's just a fact. He's sarcastic and fun, protective and sweet, sexy and patient. Loved the way he was honest about his feelings and how he pined for Cat without making it her responsibility. (The audiobook took some getting used to, with how the narrator made his accent, but reading the ebook worked better).
I don't know what more to say. The book is fast, exciting, fun and sexy. There is a whole lot of TW and CW, like graphic violence, rape, blood drinking, sexual assault.

I really enjoyed a lot of this story, but it was too slut-shamey at times, and rape came up too often for me to really love it. Cat has a lot of sympathy for women who are victims, but she reacts hostilely towards the ones she comes across who are not in danger. This is something I'm not terribly surprised to find in '00s urban fantasy, but I still have little patience for it. I do like the way it sets up the next book, and there were enough good parts that I'd cautiously recommend it to folks looking for UF featuring a female protagonist.
