I love it when writers skip over every single part of the plot that would actually be interesting to develop! Reading this was a lot like watching an action movie that has a romantic storyline at its center and fast forwarding through all the parts that aren't sex and action. This works for some people, just not for me. I like all of that slow development, especially with the romance.

It's also weird because a lot of time (half a year?) passes over the course of this book, but the time jumps are on steroids so you actually see nothing. I would've assumed this all happened over the course of a week if it weren't for the fact that I kept being reminded that it had been months. Halfway through the book the couple is having sex, and you're just kind of like, WHERE did this come from? It feels like your run-of-the-mill, zero to sixty everyone's-falling-in-love-in-a-week because of the incredible lack of depth in the book. It just kind of cheapens it for me, that the author would try so hard to sell this relationship as legit because of time when nothing substantial had been shown during this length of time.

I liked this book more than I was expecting to. I think half of it is being smitten with the love interest, Bones (can anyone say Spike from Buffy?!) Anyway their eventual relationship was hawt, to say the least. Some of the main character's motivations/angst was a little bizarre to me, but hey, I never said to understand everyone's psyche. I will definitely read the next in the series.

This seems to be a very entertaining book, but I can't hang with that narrator. Her voice for Bones is beyond annoying. I don't even know what to call it. Sort of like a cross between a bad extra from the Pirates of the Caribbean ride and a bad extra from a high school production of Oliver Twist. I had to return the book for credit, seriously. I never do that.

I'm going to wait a bit to get that voice out of my head and then try reading.

I read this once before in high school, and I very much remembered nothing from it. Reading it now was like reading it for the first time.

There's a lot of action in this book (and I'm not just talking sexual ;) ). In all seriousness though, there were fewer sex scenes than I remembered, maybe four or five total, majority of them on the shorter end. As for the real action, the actual ass-kicking and vampire-slaying, there was plenty. I thought the plot was pretty solid, if not the most original
vampire slavery ring + a little political corruption + a dash of Men in Black for good measure
. Although reading it now, it was honestly hard for me to take the big bad's name seriously (I can't stop thinking about
Hennessy whisky and the type of people I knew who wouldn't drink anything else in college
).

The romance was good--well, aside from the obvious joke of their names (Cat and Bones, hee hee that's pair made for "lovin'"). Bones's personality really grew on me. Cat kind of grated on me, sometimes being too stuck in her own way of thinking, jumping in without the knowledge or planning to back it up, and just generally being ruled by her feelings and her gut. I could see a lot of people being turned off of the book because of her personality. It was never too much for me though, but the maturity gap between her and Bones is just massive (just like their technical age-gap!).

I will say though, there were some weird moments of info dump and minor characters spitting out all of this information unbidden to clearly keep the plot going
(like the detectives and the paranormal FBI guy)
, though they weren't too distracting. I didn't really like a certain term they used a few times.
They referred to the vampire slavery ring as "white slavery" which just doesn't sit with me right. I had to look it up to be sure it's not a race thing, but apparently it's a modern legal term used to refer specifically to sex slavery and prostitution. I'd never heard the term before, and it read to me like "caucasian slavery" which seemed really strange to me since the vampires never specified a target race. I feel like this is something that'd be caught in sensitivity readings nowadays because of the confusion it could cause, but it was still weird seeing it.

I def recommend this book to paranormal romance fans (fans of Buffy the Vampire Slayer will feel right at home) and those that are looking for something a little grittier and more grown up than [b:Twilight|41865|Twilight (Twilight, #1)|Stephenie Meyer|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1361039443l/41865._SY75_.jpg|3212258] or The Vampire Diaries. I'll continue reading the series.

Original Review (10/10/2011)

I really liked it. The book was well thought out and the take on vampires original. I loved the characters, and the action was great. I'll be reading the others. :)

I thought this was an above average paranormal romance. It was fairly graphic, both sexually and in terms of violence. I found the main character interesting as a half-vampire, half-human, although I would have liked it if Frost had given more time to secondary characters and fleshed them out a bit more.

3.5 stars. Kitten annoyed me or it would have been 4.

I quit halfway through. Just couldn't check my brain at the door.

It was the murder scene/love scene that put me over. Why worry about fingerprints and then hit the bed with no cares?

Oh, man...I really hated the ending of this book! Now, I need to see where I am in the library queue for the next book! lol Other than that, I really enjoyed this book. Snappy dialogue, fleshy characters and a great story arc. Can't wait for the next installment.

Why in the world did I wait so long to cross this one off my TBR?! Vampire Hunter meets and falls for Vampire. An already told story but it's no less delightful for it's comparison to a similar sassy Vampire Hunter.

I think the series looks promising enough to read the next two books, but I disliked 70% of this book.
