DNF. Cat is sooo annnoying and immature. I tried reading this twice. Can't do it.
Third times the charm
Third times the charm
I absolutely loved this book! It was such a refreshing read, I can't even wrap my head around it! This "review" is going to be all over the place because my thoughts on it are extremely scattered. I very much enjoy Urban Fantasy· the Georgina Kincaid series by Richelle Mead is one of my favorites and I was actually looking for something similar. Now, The Night Huntress series & the Georgina Kincaid series have nothing else in common than vampires, great characters and a very intriguing plot! From page 1, it had be on my toes, questions in mind and wondering what the hell is going on! It's a very captivating book and I'm - soon - ordering the following books because I'm desperate to know how the story progresses and evolves in the second novel.
Cat, our main character is half human, half vampire and since she was 16 (I think?) after she found out what she really is, she's been killing vampires because her mum was raped by one and all her life she's been told that vampires are evil monsters. Then one night she goes at this club, trying to hunt bloodsuckers and she finds this guy. That guy, is a master vampire and he's name is Bones.
OH MY GOD BONES. I fell in love with Bones' character. I absolutely loved how they immediately fought like they were supposed to. Both of them were badasses and none of them gave up. I actually thought Bones was the big, bad vampire and I loved that! He tortured Cat, and before you call me weird, it's not like he should've been all nice and flirty when she tried to kill him.
I honestly don't know what I should talk about because, excuse my choice of words, but a lot of shit happened in only this book. I loved how Bones is British and the author actually managed to deliver that to the page. I mean, Noah Shaw from the Mara Dyer trilogy is British but I didn't actually feel like I was reading a British character talking. Now, I very much enjoyed Cat. She might annoyed me at some points but something I really appreciated was her not saying the big three words right away. I really liked how Bones, even if he is this masculine male character was the first one to admit his feelings and say "I love you". If Cat, though, was the person to say it first her character wouldn't be that realistic and with depth, when she could easily fall in love with the vampire when she's spend 6 years loathing and killing their race. I, very much hope so, I delivered what I wanted to say. What bothered me a bit, was Bones calling Cat "pet". To be honest I was expecting her to argue with him but it never really happened. Anyway, that was a very minor observation. Something else, that wasn't that bad but actually better from other books was their relationship growth. I loved it! We had our untrustworthy, disagreeing, teasing moments and then we had those sweet scenes that made me fall for Bones. To be honest, I enjoyed him a lot more when he was really cocky in the beginning.
Anyway, as far as the secondary characters even if I understand Cat's mum attitude she still annoyed me and her grandparents were awful. Something that happened to me with this book is that I didn't feel connected with the secondary characters. When her grandparents were found dead, I really didn't feel the sorrow. Now, that doesn't apply to Timmie! Such a great character and funny that I was praying he didn't end up being one of the bad guys.
To wrap this up, I have to say that I really enjoyed the book though it felt to me that it was huge! I read it on my iPad, so I didn't really see the page count, but so much happened it's insane! Bones' backstory, even if I don't remember anything apart from him refusing to be a whore, then Cats deal with Bones to find her dad, Henneasey or whatever that dude's name is and then the FBI and it's paranormal division? So much to grasp. I feel like we have a lot of questions that remained unanswered but I'm sure the following books will give answers to them. I'm sad because of how it ended and I need the sequel ASAP but I have a feeling about Tate, maybe a new love interest? Nonetheless, great book, really appreciated how it centered around justice and taking care of humans right. Those girls went trough a lot and I loved, absolutely loved how Cat defended humanity!
PS I thought I had a good grip of the story and were guessing and saying "Oh this what will happen, yup that's her dad." But nope, I was pleasantly surprised!
This book even though it didn't touch me or make cry, it made me laugh and giggle, as well as hope for a Bones of my own and a friend like Cat, Charles & Tim! Very action packed though I'm sure the following books will have me bawling my eyes out. I can feel it.

Rating: 2.5
The story started off very slow and I didn't like the beginning especially but it got better. There were some scenes that made me roll my eyes, like when Bones miraculously addresses exactly whatever thought just happens to pop in Cat's head every now and then.
Cat herself got more likeable with time, so all in all I liked her most of the time pretty well except for some moments anyway.
Like I said before, the book got better towards the end, which was pretty good by the way.

Just the kind of mystery/paranormal/romance novel I LOVE!
Normally such a whiny main character drives me nuts but this one somehow was okay. I really enjoyed it the first time I read it but it doesn't hold up quite so well on re-reads. The rest of the series is terrible.
Perhaps I'd been jonesing for a Buffy fix and didn't know it, but I picked up this book and I really enjoyed it. I defy a fan of BTVS to read this series and not picture Spike as Bones. The looks, the British accent, the swagger, I completely fell for him and it gave me a real itch to watch the series all over again.
The book has its flaws, and yes, it reads more like fan fiction, but that doesn't bother me. I enjoyed it, the sex was steamy and the chemistry between the leads was hot and made me keep turning the page, just to see how it's all going to work out.

I'm so glad I got over my hesitation that this would be too much urban fantasy and too little romance for me, because I loved this, finished it in a weekend, and have already ordered the next two books in the series.
Pretty predictable story of a half-vampire Catherine Crawfield who has been brought up to hate vampires and now hunts them, is found by Bones a vampire bounty hunter who wants to make her focus. They're attracted to each other but can she get past the years of programming?
It's readable but nothing special.
