The More of Less

Joshua Becker

The best book on minimalism I‘ve read so far. I love how Joshua promotes the idea to use the time and money you‘ve gained through minimalism to help and serve others.

Mediocre at best.
Didn't realize the overt religiosity contained in the book. Becker attempts to justify the biblical bits as "relevant to all faiths and viewpoints" but he does come off as very preachy and self-richeous.

I was reading this book to gain inspiration to continue my journey in minimalism. I had previously read Marie Kondo's Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up and followed Cait Flanders (Blonde on a Budget)'s process of owning less and living more simply, which I found completely inspirational.

On the other hand, I found this account to be grating.

Further, as you get further into the book, he starts to expound on his fitness and nutritional habits, and I feel like screaming at him to "stay in his lane!" I know we have largely become a "post-fact" society, where we tend to over-weight anecdotal accounts of how to better our lives, but in this case, I felt it was jarring to hear someone wax on about how his experience of minimalism has suddenly also enabled him with the knowledge and expertise to tell people how to pursue fitness and health goals.

Maybe you might like it, but I would not recommend.

Love, love, LOVED this book!
inspiring reflective relaxing medium-paced

Joshua Becker promotes a view of accessible minimalism. I enjoy his perspective as a practicing Christian pastor. If you enjoy this book, definitely check out his videos--they're free on youtube and basically sum up what is in this book

This was a refreshing take on minimalism that really focused on the PURPOSE of it: Why do it other than to feel less suffocated by your stuff?

This book was good - it had good ideas, good stories, and a good plan of action. It's great for people who are new to minimalism and for those who are already pretty minimal, it has some ideas about scheduling/busyness and other areas where minimalism can apply. The book does contain some biblical stories but not very many and he tells you why they are included in the beginning. What I really didn't like about the book was the last chapter - it was great until we got there. In the last chapter, the author encourages you to help others and not just pursue selfish desires. I get it and would totally agree that helping others is great but the way it is done just didn't hit me right. I think the last chapter would have been way better if it was just short stories or examples of people who found purpose in helping others. I really like Joshua Becker (the author) but would I recommend this book? Possibly but with hesitation due to that last chapter.

Lots of things that seem obvious, but good to hear it again, plus some good specific advice.
