Not capturing my attention. I have too many other books distracting me. Will return to library for now and come back later, if I run out of books.

I first read Mexican Gothic by Silvia Moreno-Garcia and fell in love with the author. This book is very different, but has Moreno-Garcia's signature fantastical world rooted in Mexican history. This story is told more like a fairytale, which involved a lot of narration, which tends to not be my favorite narrative trope. In parts, it felt a little info-dump-y to me. However, I also understand why the author made that choice. The story is largely rooted in Mayan Folklore and Mexican Jazz-Age history, which I am largely unfamiliar with, so I found the info dumps important, even if they took me out of the story a bit.

Overall a really fun, thought-provoking story with a unique and interesting setting. I look forward to reading more from Moreno-Garcia in the future!
