This story starts a debate on whether or not a serial killer is born or made. So powerful and true to life. It would make for a great movie. The story comes alive when I read it. Each character has a special style to them that I can't describe. Something so captivating. The ending seems like it's finished but there are questions that is still up in the air for a true book club discussion.

Chills. Finishing this book gave me chills. I kept going back and forth with my rating. Heather’s lack of common sense really irritated me and I was ready to give it 3 stars, but the way this book was written and the victim chapters kept me at 4. I thought I knew how this book would end during the halfway mark, but I was dead wrong. It really kept me on my toes.

At first I thought this would be too creepy, serial killer, ritualistic killings of women, copy cat murders, but after starting strong, it petered out. Heather’s estranged mother dies by suicide, Heather then discovers a disturbing communication between her mother and the serial killer.

This was a good read. I liked reading from different point of views throughout the book. It had some good twists. It had a steady pace that picked up a lot towards the end.
Absolutely loved the interesting take on this book. The story was unique and had depth into everyone that was affected. With that being said maybe it "took on more than it could chew" in the aspect that at the end it was a lot to wrap my head around. Overall worth a read if you want a more unique psychological thriller but be prepared for some confusing moments. There was also a lot of graphic and sadistic focus which can be emotionally draining at times.
A mix between thriller and crime with cults, serial killers, and spooky fairy tales sandwiched perfectly in between. Williams does a great job of setting the pace, letting us know that something is up and keeping us guessing until the end. A great read, especially for Spooktober!

Thank you to Booklist for the ARC and the opportunity to read this title!
In this thoroughly addictive thriller from fantasy writer Williams, Heather Evans returns to her childhood home after her mother’s mysterious suicide and uncovers a shocking secret—her mother maintained a decades-long correspondence with imprisoned serial killer Michael Reave, also known as the Red Wolf. Even more chilling is the fact that women have started disappearing again, and the circumstances are eerily similar to those in Reave’s previous crimes. Is a copycat at work, or is Reave somehow hunting from prison? Heather joins DI Ben Parker’s investigation in the hopes of both uncovering her mother’s connection with Reave and helping to save the lives of any future victims who could be trapped in the Wolf’s murderous jaws. Williams does a marvelous job of establishing an ominous sense of place, and the juggling of two points of view—Heather’s and Reave’s in the letters—connect the past and present brilliantly. Heather is a haunted and at times unlikable protagonist whose complexity paves the way for the disturbing twist at the end. Fans of Alex North and C. J. Tudor should get their hands on this one ASAP, though a strong stomach will be required.
