A black mans truth, pain and ramblings. I felt the intensity of his words (I listened to the audio book). This book of poems is on the way to me, as we speak. I will refer back to these poems, again.

Hayes is wonderfully charismatic, in person and on the page. Luscious word hungry writing

rly! !! still very good. a classic of the era , if I may be so bold
---------------
A really strong one I'm impressed I'm pleased I'm wondering if this has aged and will age well. Hayes has a brilliant, honed sense of cadence and serves the line often impeccably. My particular loves to the Sonnets starting 'I only intend to send word to my future', 'Rilke ends his sonnet ...', 'Our sermon today concerns the dialectic'
Also, of course, I really appreciate Hayes' emphasis on the wonderful James Baldwin in 'Seven of the ten things I love in the face'. More poets this way

Must read collection of "sonnets" which forces one to reflect on the Trump era. While a couple of the poems didn't work for me, the vast majority of them hits home.
