The Woman in Me

Britney Spears

3.91 AVERAGE

3.5 ⭐️ - even if we take the stories of the conservatorship with a pinch of salt, this woman has been through so much. What an icon and an inspiration

"Do you feel that?" she said. She looked at me. "What is that?"
Whatever it was, she felt it, too.
I reached for her hand and held it tight.

Reading about the abuse & the control... I'm infuriated on her behalf. All those doctors, therapists, media personalities, lawyers, security guards did that for what? Cause it's just a job? Where was their sense of morals?? And I know more happened that she didn't put down on paper.

It's a privilege to be able to hear the thoughts & life experience she allowed us to know as opposed to her being outed for things we shouldn't have known about. She truly owes us nothing. I want Britney to have peace for the rest of her life.

You can definitely tell this is her voice and her writing. Maybe she was a bit too honest with the name drops, maybe she just needed to live her truth. I’m so glad Britney was able to finally tell her own story. 5 stars because it would feel wrong to rate it any less

This is controversial , please my 11 goodreads friends don’t misunderstand me and assume that I am a Brittney hater because I’m not, but this was not that good. As someone who has read an unholy amount of celebrity memoir I fancy myself an expert on the subject (I am in fact an idiot and am talking to myself on goodreads right now at midnight) but this really just felt like a little skim over childhood and come up with some ~headline worthy~ secrets (ie. jt made me get an abortion) and not much else. Brittney herself says that these things were hard for her to relive so she’s not going to read the audiobook whatever but I just can’t help but feel like it’s just another cash grab from people who don’t care about her and want to exploit her. Brittney is a victim to a terrible support system who never protected her when she needed them to. I think they failed her again on this honestly because it just didn’t feel like her story. It felt like someone wrote down her history and she popped in a few lil tidbits, they threw in some catchy lines about power and freedom and then called it a day to make some more money off of her. Please help if you’ve read this and can change my mind. I await your thoughts dear goodreads friends that are not reading this cuz why would you it’s the ramblings of a lunatic. Thank you goodnight

Me again, look at this cover even. This is not a recent picture of her (I don’t think) and she’s half naked . Who am i to say none of this was her idea but this does not feel like a cover for a “I’m my own person and you cant sexualize me anymore and I have a story to tell” kind of book. Idk. Who am I to say.

Wow. I feel so bad for Britney. The writing was quite shallow, which is to be expected. Her life was so hard for her, it required so much strength for her to be able to push through what she went through. It did feel like at times she didn't take accountability for some of her own actions regarding some of the people she was in relationships with.
