My rating is really 3 1/2 stars. I felt it started out really strong, but by the time I reached the end, I found myself wondering exactly what the point of the story was. I mostly enjoyed the back stories, even though some of them tied together too nicely. Overall I don't feel there was enough drama. I felt the story line of the prophet could have been stronger, I never felt like the characters were truly in danger. And I did like the main characters, but it was hard keeping track of the side characters (third cello? sixth guitarist?). One problem I did have was I kept picturing Kirsten as a little girl even though she was in her late twenties. One of the major events alluded to was never really addressed, and I'm wondering if the author is saving that for a sequel.

I wish there was more focus on what happened during the outbreak. Also too much Shakespeare for me, it feels like refences that I don't understand

Beautiful portrait of the survival of art. This has been on my TBR for far too long. Thank you @mrd_reads for giving me the push to go for it. While I do love a dystopian novel, this was not typical of what I usually read and it was a welcome aside. The focus was not on the tragedy of the world changing so drastically, but on the beauty that could still exist even in that state. A few more books to go to be a Madel completist, and I have loved every work of hers that I have read.
