Not every book is truly outstanding. Big Magic was a replacement for the football games this weekend. I wasn't disappointed. It was funny different and thought provoking. I've read many self help books and E. Gilbert is in the top tier of them. I have a creative arts degree and I self paid my way through school, so when Ms Gilbert said advanced training in the arts is an expensive brag session I thought what else will she say about what is a better way to express myself through writing. Amazing clarity of thought she possesses. She has paid her dues and didn't get there by bluffing on an IQ test to get in to Iowa State writing group. Looking forward to reading "Eat Pray Love" To her detractors i say a line from her book, If you argue for your limitations you get to keep them." Open up! art is an expression of freedom not a dirigible hoovering over your prison camp.

The book is good and motivating im just lazy i read it to understand what is the approach of writer to writing it answered my questions and i haven't implemented any of it to my own writing

I found this book inspiring and freeing. I tend to take my creativity too seriously. I will definitely read this again.

Unapologetically light-hearted, Gilbert writes from a place of stubborn gladness. Every once in a while, the conversational tone and warmth of her writing is exactly the sort of thing I need. The book has its shortcomings, sure. But this time, the whole thing really hit the spot.

Inspirational book. Key takaways were that you can follow your creativity, but don't pressure it to be your only source of income. Do the work you love and don't care what other people think. After all, what is the alternative, to not do inspiring and creative work at all and live an unfullfilling existence? The work should be the means for happyness, not any societal standard of success.
