The author may be a bit of narcissist, and it’s a bit meandery / preachy/ anecdotal. But I think there are parts that are lovely, and ideas I liked a lot. It equal parts annoyed me and delighted me. I think if you’re somebody who would like to think about your own creativity, this is a book worth picking up.
Enjoyable. Gave me stuff to think about. Her whole message is mainly diligence and persistence which appeals to me.

“if you bring forth what is within you, what you bring forth will save you. If you don’t bring forth what is within you, what you don’t bring forth will destroy you”
“All they’d originally intended to do was entertain tourists and themselves, but now they were tripping over God every single night, and everyone could see it.”
An amazing read for anyone who wants to live a creative life.

I'm not through 2021 totally yet, but this has been one of my favorite books so far. This is also my introduction to Elizabeth Gilbert. I'm going to be honest - I put off reading it (even though it was s suggested by several creative friends) because I felt like it was probably over hyped. I was so wrong.
Liz addresses so many aspects of creative work in this that are integral to being any kind of creative human, including but not limited to:
When art / specialized school is important and when the financial aspect will out weight the benefits.
Why art is valid even if you don't do it full time
Addressing writers block
Addressing the wall of fear we hit when creating (and not "letting fear drive")
The "tortured artist" trope (and how it's dangerous)
Learning to dance with inspiration and create even when you're not "inspired"
Synchrony with other artists and how this is beautiful (and doesn't need to be competitive)
Maybe I just read this at the right time, but it was incredibly supportive and affirming for me in all my creative work and play.
