To get right to it, I think Darke was a whole lot more padded than it needed to be. There was too much time spent on people just hiding out in the dark, with very little plot to drive the book forward. I'm still excited for the final book, because I knew the 5 previous books to be much better than this, but this is definitely a low point for the series.

“Sometimes talking to a dragon was the only thing that made sense.”

- I was feeling really down last week and didn’t want to read something I need to concentrate on, so I thought I’d read Darke - something that I was familiar with, that would make me smile, that would feel like coming home
- Whilst I wasn’t completely wrong (I know and love these characters and the story continues to be easy to read because I read it in one day), I was not at all familiar with the story - I’ve only read it once before so it was like reading something completely new
- Septimus and Jenna were not my favourite characters in this book, much to my surprise - although they had their reasons, they both acted quite selfishly and a little spoilt, but also kind of teenagery (I forgot they were only 14 in this, they’re still babies)
- This renewed my love for Beetle
- I liked that we had lots of groups of characters interacting in different ways than before
- I was quite tense actually reading this growing imminent disaster
- Once again, we learnt some more about the history of the world and some of the traditions in it it
- I liked that a lot of things from early books started to be tied up in this one, but it also left hints for where the final book will go

Buku2 terdahulu kukasih 5 stars, tp buku ini kukurangi 1 stars krn sampe pertengahan buku gemes bgt bacanya. Alurnya lambat trus tokoh2nya melakukan byk kebodohan hingga melewatkan saat2 penting & genting. Rame2nya pas menjelang akhir membuat yg baca bete duluan...

The most amusing of all this series by far! I missed Angie Sage's humour so much as I awaited the publication of this book. The plot was twisted around so many characters in a seamless fashion, and I adored it!

This book was just as good as the others, but took me longer to finish. It was WAY darker than the other ones, so it was a bit of a shock. I liked Harry Potter because it got gradually dark. This series was just...BAM! This entire book is about Darke Magic.

That being said, even though it was dark, it wasn't so dark as to make me depressed and sad.

A great read. I love this series and I can hardly wait to read its conclusion!

Great book, good ending of the series, even though I wish there'd been more with Jenna and Sep, because their relationship looked like it could turn romantic!

I think this is the most interesting book out of the first 6. There’s so much to learn about the Darke in this book.

I really love how it took place in just a few days. There was so much going on, and it really brought together many of the side characters we had met in the previous books in a satisfying and enjoyable way.

I have no idea what to expect from Fyre. This book feels like a good ending to me, so I have high expectations for the actual ending of the series.

That stinking Merrin Meredith is back, threatening the Castle with the power of the Darke. Only Septimus, his dragon Spitfyre, and Princess Jenna can stop Merrin from covering the entire city in Darkeness.

I loved this book! The plot is full of action and magic and twists. I adore the characters, and I love how they grow and learn throughout the series. This book was particularly emotional for the Heap family as prodigal son, Simon, strives to win back his family’s love and trust.

My only trouble was the vast number of side characters. They are all quirky and sweet and interesting and memorable, but there are just SO MANY of them. I could barely keep track of who was who. I can follow about 20 main characters and then I start losing track.

I just adore this series! The intertwined plots are so complex and imaginative. Really good story telling in the writing style that puts the reader right into the middle of the action and tugs at your heart strings.
