Yet another great book in the Septimus Heap series!

Darke definitely lives up to its name as it is the darkest installment in the Septimus Heap series, but Sage's humor is still present throughout the entire book. Not many new characters are introduced but tons of old ones come back, like Simon*yeh* and Marcellus and Merrin. The main characters do grow some in this book; Septimus becomes more mature as his training gets more serious. Jenna seems like a little brat in this book though; she orders Septimus around like he's supposed to work for her, refuses to take off her witch cloak even though its dangerous, and doesn't care about Beetle at all, I feel sorry for the guy because she obviously cares about her palace way more than him.
SpoilerI'm still not sure on how Beetle survived in the Hermetic Chamber without the Suspension Charm
.

I enjoyed ready this and am definitely excited for the final installment of the series.

Surpassed my expectations. While book 5 was a bit chaotic (unnecessarily so, IMO), book 6 was well-written and focused. A little scary, sure, and a few gross moments, but the plot was strong, the purpose sure, and the humor back. Characters worked together, forgiveness as granted, young people rose to their potential.

This books was really good. It was hard to stop reading on days I took it to work to read during lunches, and once it got going after the first few chapters set everything up, it was always going. The book starts with septimus worried about his dark week trials and at the same time Jenna is avoiding being the princess in waiting. The darke spreads quickly in this book compared to others where it is a background item, this time it is front page news. The two help Marcia get the castle and the darke back under control before time runs out for everyone.

I wish we had a spin-off series of 7 more books with Beetle as the protagonist!

This one had a slow start but once it picked up I didn't want to put it down. It starts with Septimus stressing out about his upcoming darke week and therefore doesn't want to help Jenna with her problem in the palace and she asks Beetle for help who starts feeling like a second fiddle to Septimus. Then a darke domaine takes over and our friends have to save the day but will they do it in time? Exciting news for Beetle emerges and they figure out who wolf boy is. I really enjoyed this one but like I said it took a little longer to get into then the books in this series normally do. I can't wait to see how it all will eventually end.

Gotta admit, I have complaints about how Septimus isn't held accountable for how he treats people, but Angie Sage absolutely nails endings.
