Marco's hesitant nature makes for a great POV for this book. A great exposure to the Yeerk politics that is one of their greatest weaknesses.

This is my favorite cover so far. And here we have Marco the most reluctant Animorph. I've been expecting this reveal for a few books now. It's surprising they gave it to us so soon, but that's children's lit I guess.

I liked Marco from the beginning because despite his sometimes biting jokes, he's the only one to bring any real gravity to the situation. He's wary and reluctant for incredibly valid reasons, and despite keeping up the jokester persona, he brings up important points that help save them from making big mistakes. This installment let us get some more insight into his thoughts and feelings regarding everything, and he's shown to be quite mature compared to the rest of the group. The end was insane, I honestly did not see that coming at all, and it makes me excited for next installment in his POV.

The Solace: Marco is hilarious, and this story had the funny. On the other hand, it also was incredibly sad. Marco hides his pain behind his humor, which is extremely real and relatable, not to mention the crazy reveal in the end, which further deepens Marco's story and motivations.

The Dread: The pacing is a bit of a whirlwind - the beginning focuses on Marco and our new character Ax, but the ending drastically ramps into action and the big reveal. Light and heavy - very Marco; I just wish it was more balanced

Overall, another great Animorph story, one I'm anxious to see how it all unfolds.
