This cover is slightly misleading because this is a mildly dark book at times. I did find it really fun, especially since I caught most of the references to books (even ones that weren't explicitly named but just referred to by cover or plot). It had an ending I wasn't expecting, especially considering that cover, which I appreciate. I maybe wanted a little bit more clarity or twist about this new guy she became obsessed with, but ultimately I would rather the ending be left as it is than be over-explained in a way I would find unsatisfying. Regardless, interesting and a fun book of this genre. I was kind of skeptical going in but glad I read!

I didn't much care for any of the characters, but I did appreciate Victoria's regular imaginings of the backstories of people she sees in the café. I also appreciated the zinger of an ending.

A woman dealing with the intrusive thoughts in her head, for an entire novel. Predictable, yet still a shocking ending. I’ll be thinking about this book for a while, about what it means to feel guilty, to feel love, and to find yourself in any relationship. I fell in love with the words “book” and “reading” throughout this read - they savor a different, more delicious sound in my head now. 5 starts isn’t right, just because the book was a little too… weird.

I liked the main character but she was painfully passive. Her dreadful husband forbidding her from reading or owning books? No sterile "nice" house is worth that.
