I had numerous moments of "wtf is happening" while reading this book. The bizarre and extreme delusions of the main character hit hard from the very start, and left me like a deer in the headlights. At first I was somewhat sympathetic to her plight, but she soon became a stalker siren. Dark but also deeply bizarre to be thrust into such detailed, psychotic musings.
This book took me by surprise. This is the perfect book for a book club. I want to start a book club just so I can discuss this book. I don’t want to give too much away because I want everyone to have the same experience I had with this book.
If you are on Bookstagram, you should read this. If you love books, you should read this. If you have ever escaped reality into a book, you should read this. If you live inside of a book more than real life, you should read this. If you like to people watch, you should read this. If you are human, just read this!
The story is witty. It is somewhat relatable. It is a little dark. It is a tiny bit spicy.

It's a very strange novel. I sympathize with being married to a guy like Eric, but Victoria was no treat either.

Victoria is a self proclaimed bookworm. She spends as much of her free time reading books and she loves people watching and coming up with stories about their lives. She’s also miserable with her husband Eric and shows a very strong sense of dark humor coming up with ways that he could die - whether at her hands or someone else’s.
While at her favorite cafe, Victoria sees a very attractive man who just so happens to be reading the same book as her. She starts to imagine what their interactions would be like until one day it happens and goes farther than she expected.
This one got a solid 3.5 stars from me - it would have gotten 4 but the ending was very abrupt and felt incomplete.
Overall, I liked the story enough - the dark and twisty humor drew me in but I wish I could have had more of an ending…
Thank you to NetGalley and Harper Perennial for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.

I'd typically not consider reading this book, based solely on the book cover. But trusted reviewers rated it highly, the writer is Canadian, and it was available from the library. What a surprising treat it was to read. I loved the black humour, the smart writing, and the many literary references. It perfectly summed up my mixed feelings about [b:A Little Life|22822858|A Little Life|Hanya Yanagihara|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1446469353l/22822858._SY75_.jpg|42375710].

Am I unhinged for liking this so much?
I cannot recommend this book to anyone. From the very beginning of the book Victoria got on my nerves. An I was rolling my eyes when she basically fell in love with some guy across the room just because he was reading the same book as her. An she couldn’t stop thinking about him. The finding out she was married I don’t care if he is awful to you I don’t condone it. An that’s all in chapter 1 & 2 an it doesn’t get any better.
Interesting book that wasn’t able to ratchet up the tension in the ‘third act’ - to me, a critical component of a thinking thriller like this story. As a result, the ending was more ‘meh’ than ‘wow.’
