Another good book by Crusie. This one has so much going on in it that you have to keep up.
3.5 stars
I've been a fan of Jennifer Crusie since Bet Me, but this book doesn't do her justice. It's a book without a genre. Not romance (no steam, and bummer for that). Not mystery(none of the traditional plot point trajectory for that, this book is all over the place). Not chick lit (none of the characters really seem to learn anything about themselves).
I waded through this super long book hoping against hope that it would make a turn for the better... that I would read that hilarious and snappy dialog I've read in some of her other books, but I never got it. I laughed a few times, but honestly, this book reads sad and tired to me and when I read it I wondered if Crusie even likes writing anymore?
Which made me sad. I love her books and I'll continue to read whatever of them I run across, but this book was not her best. Maybe if there'd been some editing and a TRUE genre label, I might be able to get on board. This book was just a mess.
Overall, I loved the characters, and I loved the dynamic between the brothers and friends. But that was about it.

I know I read this one by Jennifer Cruise, years back, but recently rediscovered and reread.
I have a better understanding on how perspectives can change with age and experience. All three women here are dealing with different marital issues, yet due to their experience or lack thereof they all react and deal with their trauma in different, sometimes dangerous ways.
Nell seemed to be coming out of a depression when we meet her, to me I feel like she would have eventually pull herself out no matter what butt meeting Gabe really allowed her to flourish a lot better and faster. For Gabe, it took him a while longer to realize that his life was stagnant before Nell butt he ends up waking up in time to keep her. I like how in the end they both really heard each other and adjusted to make their relationship healthy.
& although Suze & Margie are secondary characters they are also dealing with issues many women deal with in marriage, including loss of identity, settling instead of fighting, & the question of whether to start over???
Loved the paths these ladies took, and when things got bad, they were there for each other supporting & even encouraging which only made me love them more.

Still love the book, but not crazy about the narrator for the audio version.
Crusie broke her typical mold a bit in this one (but just a tiny bit.) This was a cute story, with lots of fun female characters and misbehaving men. Not amazing, but a cute, light read.
High quality Crusie with a little more plot than some and strong characters. Have read this one before (several times) but scooped up this copy at the Hannaford United Way book table. Fun read the week before the Election!

A little dated, but still a fun page-turner. Recommended for rom-com fans.
