i have a soft spot for tom robbins but mostly i wanted him to stfu the whole time i was reading this

Thank god this is over
slow-paced

This is my second experience with Tom Robbins, who I quite enjoyed the first time around. However, this book struck me a different way. While there are some fun parts of this story and Robbins writing is brilliant, as always, the whole thing just left me with a really bad taste in my mouth. The conversations that people have in the book are completely absurd, both in length and content, which makes it difficult for the reader to suspend any sort of disbelief. Also Sissy and Jellybean's sexual relationship with the Chink was sleazy, repulsive and more importantly unnecessary. On another note I found the entire Clockworks thing annoying to follow. This is not a terrible book, but it just didn't make a great impression on me.

I had forgotten how tragic much of this book is! Lots of joy but surprise badness as well. But it is classic Tom Robbins so what should I have expected, eh? A very good book and well worth the read.

Tom Robbins hates lesbians.

True. And excellent.

A delightful and curiously deep philosophical comedy about a woman with gigantic thumbs and how she turns this disability into an art, a way of life.
