A very informative glimpse into Celaena Sardothien's life before her introduction in Throne of Glass. This filled in some blanks and gave some much needed back bone to some of her actions that (quite frankly) annoyed me in the earlier parts of the series. While some of her personality is still a bit annoying, I can understand her actions and feelings a bit better with reading this book. I am glad I picked it up when I did (Right after Queen of Shadows). I think that is really where this should be read as it is a good point to take a look back in the past with what is over the horizon. Looking forward to getting back to reading more, especially knowing what I know now.

i still really enjoyed this book and getting more of calaena’s backstory but i also found myself just sometimes not really being super interested or connected with the stories, and i think that stems from the fact that i finished heir of fire and then moved to this and it felt slow and a tad boring in comparison
