I love Dickens! I was never required to read this in school, so it was always on my list of books I wanted to read when I got the time. I have read Great Expectations and Bleak House. I love Dickens' gift for words. There's no one like him these days. I love how he compares the people in the French revolution to a raging sea. I'm so glad I finally got around to reading this book. It is on my list of favorites.

I'm learning that I'm not the biggest fan of Dickens.

Read this book for AP Lit, and my teacher really hyped it up. I can understand the hype for this book, and for Dickens as an author, but give it four stars myself. This is not a light read, it's not funny and witty like other Dickens works, it's not the kind of book you pick up and skim through, but there is no doubt it's a masterpiece none the less. The writing is mesmerizing at times and gives you a headache at others. The characters are simple and stagnant, except for Madame Defarge "the devil's wife". The plot is historical, of course, and tells the events of the storming of the Bastille and the French Revolution.
There is something to be said about an author who can write a line that is, arguably, the most famous line in the history of the English language. "It was the best of times, it was the worst of times." Thus I leave you with my personal opinion on this classic novel.
