The voice the author gave the main character rings strong and true throughout the book. Pair with How it Went Down by Kekla Magoon.

Just finished. Wow.

Right now, I am overwhelmed by way too many thoughts and feelings.

(The only reason why I didn't give it 5 stars is because of the pacing and language. But I will not get any deeper than that.)

Now, I think some people might be hesitant to read this book as it deals with topics that are often unwilling to be discussed. However, the author did a good job at keep the balance between the serious parts and funny, light-hearted parts. Also, this book has so many other things to say as well. And that, is for you to find out.

I think this book holds its true value in importance and the messages it gives out. Yes, it is the most honest account of what's happening to a lot of people around the world at this very moment. Police violence and racism do not only exist in America. But it's not just about that. Sadly, such tragedies will happen in this world, no matter what. And it is time for us to make ourselves noticed. It's time to make our voices heard. It's OUR turn. It's time to stand up for those that got our backs. Because voice, is our weapon.

If I were to continue, I would have to copy and paste the pages word for word. There is absolutely no way I can discuss half of the impacts it had on me. I'll say it again, this book is IMPORTANT.

As I've already mentioned, the things I wrote so far are just a tiny glimpse of what this book is all about. I've come to a conclusion that reading this book is the only way for you to truly understand what I'm saying. The Hate U Give made me happy, it made me irate(most of the time), but it also made me hopeful. You will NEVER want to turn the last page.

So good. Excited to see the movie.

Every white person should read this book. It shows that no matter what your intentions are, things you say and do as a white person can be extremely harmful. Racism is engrained in our society and we have to be intentional on fixing that. And that means unlearning the hateful words and behaviors that have been forced upon us from society. We have to be intentional to change our ways.

Also, cops need major reform. Everywhere. All of them. They have to stop killing black and other people of color.
