I love seeing some of the old faces from the previous quarter and I love seeing Daine continue to grow and meet new people. This book is amazing (and has dinosaurs with wings!).

This is a wonderful book by Tamora Pierce. It *might* be my least favorite in the series, but it's still a book I absolutely love. And the climax is absolutely epic!

As with the rest of Tamora Pierce's books, it's the characters that really make me love the book. The main character as well as many others in the book have a way of getting under my skin. If you enjoyed the first two books in the series, read this one as well!

I devoured this. It was so hard to put down. This one was my favorite so far in this quartet.

I love this story it has been a long time since I read it more than twenty years maybe the story still holds up to this day. I really loved the characters especially Daine she is a very strong character whom has strong magic and communicates with all kinds of animals. She is very interesting getting along with certain people and doing what she can not to cause war since they are in a country that has attacked Tortall before. There are many great characters along with characters that were easy to hate all so very interesting to read. The plot was great it starts with the Tortall group going to Carthak for diplomatic reasons things happen the evil mage Ozorne does many not so great things and it ends looking forward to reading more.

Daine and company are traveling to Carthak to begin peace talks with Emperor Ozorne. With all political dealings nothing is what it seems. The Emperor is crafty and not afraid to show his strength in both military and magical might. Daine makes friends with the heir Kaddar even though they disagree on things like slavery. Carthak is in trouble though. The gods are not happy with the path Ozorne has taken and are not afraid to interfere. Of course, they can't interfere directly so they use Daine as their pawn. When things go crazy it is up to Daine to save the day.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I thought it had a lot of development in both the characters and the world. Daine has a chance to help the Emperor by saving his beloved birds and she gets to know him a bit as well. It is hard for her and the reader to figure out if this man is truly evil. He has done evil things, but can someone who loves his animals so much be truly bad? I liked Daine's new power bestowed by the Graveyard Hag, but am glad it was returned by the end of the book. I think it would have become a crutch if kept. Daine has always seemed to save the day in her books, but in this one she truly does save both Carthak and Tortall from disaster.

Third in Tamora Pierce’s The Immortals series about Daine, a teenage girl with magic that allows her to communicate with animals. This one is the worst of the four. The story itself is actually not bad – Daine travels to the land of Carthak to help treat the emperor’s sick birds, and becomes embroiled in political schemes. What really put me off it was the way the author let her own prejudice taint the book. Usually, all animals automatically love Daine and vice versa, but here, rats inexplicably hate her and she them. They’re portrayed as evil and unpleasant for absolutely no reason. I found this very disappointing from an author who usually takes pains to point out that common negative views of animals are incorrect and based on myths – other animals traditionally seen as “bad,” such as wolves, hyenas and bats, are all shown positively/realistically in her books. The author might dislike rats, but Daine wouldn’t – she loves and understands all animals. To have her dislike them just because they’re rats is out of character and poor writing, and spoiled the book for me.

I liked this book. I think I might have even liked it better than [b:Wolf-speaker|24094|Wolf-speaker (Immortals, #2)|Tamora Pierce|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1167520027s/24094.jpg|1090193]. Only because, Daine is a little older and she really comes into her own here. The villain in the series thus far has been the Carthaki Emperor. Now that he's off the seat, I'm kind of wondering what's next.

I'll definitely be reading the next one.

Daine is part of the Totallan peace mission to Carthak. She is included to see if she can heal the emperor's birds. However, the gods aren't happy with the emperor and the Graveyard Hag decides to use Daine to teach the emperor a lesson. However, the Graveyard Hag is in for a few surprises too. Daine has a mind and will of her own.

I really felt Daine comes into her own here. Standing up to the Graveyard Hag and what she does when she loses her temper. I also was impressed with who rescues Daine.
