"What are you thinking, Amy? How are you feeling? Who are you? What have we done to each other? What will we do?"

I had put off reading this for a while because I'd already seen the movie, and I thought that hell, I probably wouldn't enjoy it as much because of that. And I was right. I think that if I read the book before I watched the movie, the book would be much more enjoyable and probably a 5 star rating. That being said, this book was still amazing. There are so many more details than in the movie,
Spoilerand even if I know that Nick didn't kill his wife, the book surely did manage to almost convince me at times.
Speaking of Nick. He was okay in the movie. I didn't love him, but I didn't hate him either. That changed in this book. He was truly one of the most annoying characters ever, and as the book progressed, I found myself rooting for Amy even more. At some points I was even incredibly bored with Nick's pov chapters, to the point where I put the book down because I didn't want to read his whining anymore. Amy, however, is an incredible, amazing character. Sure, she's definitely not a good character, but that's what makes her interesting. Gillian Flynn has really done a good job crafting this character.

All in all, this was a very good book, even if you already know the plot twist.

writing was good, but a lot of the character portrayals felt dated and cliched — overly sexist, almost.

I can also see how this book set the stage for the
unreliable narrator
trope for the decade to come, and while it certainly was filled with dark twists and turns I didn’t fully expect, it started to feel a bit unrealistic and overly wordy (especially in the
first half). Overall, it was fine read, but I feel like it’s now been done better.

2 stars for the first half and 3.5 for the second. I had high expectations for this book because both the book and movie are so popular. Sorry, but I was booored. Things picked up around the last 200 pages and I was entertained enough but meh. It probably didn’t help that I knew the “big twist” before reading.

I'll be honest, I never finished the book, so it's hard to form a complete opinion on the book - so take my rating with a grain of salt. If I ever get past the slow, hard to keep my attention portion of the book, I'll try to update my review with my opinion of the book as a whole.

I DNF’d since I hated the characters immediately, and they also seemed to be sexist cliches.

100% recomendable.
