Idk I was really between a 3 and a 4 for this one… it was almost good but the multiple POVs ultimately didn’t work for me
I want more of this! Whatever this is - short stories wrapped in the guise of a novel, with interweaving stories and lives. Between Sasha and Bennie and time. Genre defying. It’s hard to explain why I loved this book so much but I do.
I love how the stories were a hodgepodge of different perspectives, shifting narration, styles, ages. How they’re all connected, sometimes in small ways and other times in pivotal ways. How we are always guessing who will be featured next. How we get to tunnel in to another persons life. How the goon squad will come get us all eventually.

Made-to-savor prose, pause. And go. Goon squad = time.
Top moments:
1. Lou telling freckled Rhea that someday, some guy will go bat-shit crazy for her freckles as she sobs, bound up in unrequited affection.
2. The Orpheus and Eurydice statue - Looking at each other with the unspeakable knowledge that everything is lost.
3. When the dead boy goes to visit Sasha to tell her he'll always be with her.
4. Sasha's stealing, her dreams, her telling her friend to fight against his suicidal impulse, her ownership of Florence

*Shrug* I loved the first chapter....it went a bit downhill for me after that. I also loved the PowerPoint chapter, gimmicky or not, although I don't think Jennifer Egan shouldn't be selling this as a ebook when you can't actually read that chapter on an eReader. I had to go find it in a bookstore to read it - annoying!
I would recommend this to other people, but it wasn't for me....I found it depressing as hell. Also I didn't really care about any of the characters, I found myself repeatedly having to look back to figure out who each chapter was talking about. And the weird futuristic chapter at the end was ultra doofy. Perhaps I'm not hip enough for this book? Some of the writing was really on point, but overall this didn't thrill me.
