With the bird’s-eye view Pollock gives of how lives intertwine, I wish I could be a Fate weaving—and untangling—some of those lifelines. This is an epic view of the ebb and flow of prosperity and want in the lives of its characters. The American South in 1917 is alive here.

Another amazing read by my favorite author.

Just finished this novel and I can't help but wish it were a few hundred pages longer.
I wish the saga of all of the colorful characters who populate this novel could continue on and on.

Can't remember the last book I read that was as memorable as this one.
Outrageously funny, action packed, exciting, suspenseful and at times very moving.

Pollock is one of the finest novelists we have.

Highest recommendation.

A good story with great writing but I didn't like it as much as The Devil All the Time & Knockemstiff.

I read this especially slow so it would last longer.

Not enough adjectives available to describe how great a storyteller and wordsmith Donald Ray Pollack is.

I bought the hardcover, which is rare for me given they're not cheap.

Worth every penny.

I don't think ANYBODY writes about despicable things as well as this dude. I always find myself absolutely fascinated when I read his books, and the historical settings only add to it. Not for the faint of heart.
