I would say this is where it seriously jumped the shark.

Not my favorite Vampire Chronicles Book, but it was still interesting to some extent.

(A youtube video chat regarding my love/hate relationship with Anne Rice can be found here: https://youtu.be/EffWOXyOSQo)

As with a lot of Anne Rice's reads I wasn't sure if this was the best book I'd ever read or the worst - this should have been amazing, but it cut short, dry and kinda hard to read it fell short of outstanding. Merrick, a witch... female lead, should have been so good, but overshadowed by the two males in it.

Can't even pretend like I know enough about this book to write a proper review. I have a quote written down, but even that can't leave me a clue. One day, when I re-read the series, I'll be able to go back and edit a real review.

I have mixed feelings about this book, mostly because of the characterization of 14-year-old Merrick as some kind of seductress of 50-year-old David. I get that their relationship develops from that. But the sole acknowledgement of that sexual attraction on David's part was disgusting, as well as the knowledge that David likes them "young". In addition, the constant mention of Merrick's breasts at the most random times was unnerving to the least. I hope there are no more books narrated by David-a character I used to like-, because I haven't enjoyed at all being in his mind.
