This book was so wholesome. It was the first book by Sy that I ever read and it made me SOB. Sob because they way she writes about animals and connecting their behaviors and personalities back to us humans and the rest of the world. Just a beautifully written book about animals and life lessons. Probably my favorite book by Sy so far!
I enjoyed this book! It felt geared towards a younger audience and was a very easy read, but the stories were touching and the moral of the story is clear: the non-human inhabitants of our world have lives just as meaningful as ours, and we can gain a lot of insight from paying attention to them.
Recently lost a beloved cat named Sasha and couldn’t have picked a better book to read. I was not aware the book would deal with multiple instances of loss, but reading about the author grappling with such losses has been a comfort to me. The lessons we learn from the animals we love will stay with us forever. I enjoyed reading about the impact all of the different animals made on the author. Comforting, beautiful, wise, and sweet.
This is a wonderful memoir and look at what animals can teach us rolled into one. The author’s enthusiasm is palpable.
This book deepened my appreciation for Sy Montgomery, as my third read by her. I listened to the audio version narrated by Sy herself. Definitely teared up several times. I'm already looking forward to reading more of her work.
An enrapturing blend of science and memoir that shows how animals we love (and those we grow to love) can help us be better people. Even if you’re not an “animal person” this book will make you smile and maybe even cry once or twice (or five....)
