inspiring lighthearted fast-paced

The artwork by Rebecca Green in this book is fantastic. I searched some of her pieces to hang around my home because they are THAT good. I think she needs recognition for how incredible the drawings and quotes are.

The book itself was okay. I loved reading about how every animal can teach all of us something if we look closely. Although it IS a memoir, I wish it spoke more broadly about what animals teach us and not the lessons she learned from an animal. But that's a personal qualm based on the genre so I did not mark down for that.

I love Sy Montgomery's Scientists in the Field books, and was thrilled to find she had written adult nonfiction as well.

This book contains small wisdoms and interesting tidbits, but perhaps I wasn't in the proper mood for it when I read it. It just felt too 'small world' for me, as it's really mostly about the things her farm animals have taught her.

A memoir of extreme privilege. Predictable and boring.

An easy read with some really good stories from a smart author. Recommended for anyone who loves animals... of any kind.
reflective medium-paced

Cute stories about the animals that impacted the author, from childhood pets to research subjects.
adventurous funny informative inspiring medium-paced

I needed this book so much, and it's definitely on my list of Books Everyone Should Read. Sy Montgomery is just about as much a treasure as the octopuses she loves so much. ^_^ <3

SO melodramatic. I didn’t recognize the author’s name when I borrowed this from Libby thinking it would be a good short family road trip audiobook to finish. I read The Soul of an Octopus and hated it too. Idk. I can see that she was going for something really earnest here, but it fell flat.
