I really liked this! I'm not sure if I would've loved it as a child, but I definitely appreciate this as an adult. You can definitely see how this book shaped the way that future fantasy writers write and that's really interesting. Definitely better fantasy books for children have come out since this was written, but as this was the one that paved the way for those later books, it's important to read this to understand writers like C.S. Lewis and J.K. Rowling better. I probably wouldn't recommend my child read this, but if they happened to pick it up and enjoyed it, then I wouldn't complain!
I remember my father reading this to me and I loved reading it to my daughter. I think it was a little ahead of its time and that makes it seem a little strange.
This was written in the 19th century, and it feels it. While some parts were enchanting, it also felt slow-moving and outdated.
There were some gems, however - about the ability to believe, and about goodness. (I should've noted them down... But alas, my copy is back to the library.) I've been corrupted by the attention-deficit-promoting distractions of modern technology.

I was reading this story for my thesis, and it was a sweet little old-fashioned fairytale with, of course, some pretty interesting illustrations (that's what I'm writing my thesis on). A quick, easy read, it still might be good with children of to get a sense of what children were reading in the nineteenth century in England.

I actually enjoyed this more than I thought I would!
Now, it's not fabulous. And it's pretty... dated. Ultimately, it should only get 3 stars from me, but... me and my sister watched this movie ALL THE TIME growing up, so there's some childhood nostalgia connected to it :)

Another one I read aloud to Lillian. It's a sweet fairy tale, I'll probably dust it off again in a few years when she I'd old enough to follow the story
I read through this with my daughter. Entertaining and has some good lessons for princesses as well.
I'm not sure why I never read this one as a child, for it is exactly the sort of book I would have loved. It drags on in a few places, but for the most part is a lovely magical tale of bravery & trust.
My boys adored this book! They continually asked me to read more and more of it until we finished it!
