Fantastic book, it had me raging at the injustices pretty much every scene! Fantastic read, really enjoyed it, and how it ended!
This is definitely feminist and comes with the trigger warning of sexual assault. Reagan, a witch at the age of 13 casts a spell on the princesses of Ever to get back at the King for what he did to her mother. Five years later, Reagan is back to give the princesses three days before her 18th birthday to break the spells. If the spells are not broken by her 18th birthday, then the spells become true and permanent. This book follows the point of views of Jane, the oldest princess and Reagan.
If you are a fan of the book Damsel, you will love this book. It has similar vibes, but doesn’t have any weirdness. It was fun to see how Jane grew as a character. From being spoiled to having her eyes open to her world. Then, it was fun to see Reagan grow from anger to eyes opened as well. The only thing I didn’t like was how rushed the ending felt.

This book has a whimsical feel to it in the beginning but it is definitely meant for older ya audiences. The second half becomes darker and gritty with heavy theme of sexual assault. There is also eat disorders triggers as the oldest princess the main characters cannot eat. The other royals and people of the count love to mock her with it so be warned some descriptions of her are hard to read.
Reagan character really frustrates me because her way of teaching the king a lessons and cause him pain is to punish his wife and daughters who are victims themselves. Everyone is mad the princesses don’t go out and know anything truly about the kingdom but it’s literally not their fault that they’ve been groomed from birth. The more I read honestly the more mad I got. To avenge the wrongs of an evil king she punishes the innocent girls her age and younger.
What makes me the most frustrated is how mad everyone is at Jane and her sisters. Lots of people complained about how annoying Jane is and ignorant but when you read her POV it really does read like a victim of abuse. How are they supposed to know any of this that you want them they never get the chance and no one bothers to tell them! To expect them to just know without any explanation or eye opening happening is ignorant it self and cruel to punish those not given the chance to learn.
The existence of Abbott also is interesting he has a half sister that could very well take his place in the story and have a bigger impact as she would connects to both main characters. Plus the fact it’s a man that who sets it stuff in motion over mind the fact that it’s about female empowerment.
I feel it would have been better to create a theme of a both good and bad creating a grey area of a person because that’s what real people are like. I appreciate the LGBT+ friendly book but the victim blaming that happens is enough to over ride that excitement.

A captivating story about a curse placed on a kingdom and the princesses' challenge to defeat the curse before it becomes permanent. I loved the strong female characters in this story. I was also intrigued as I continued to learn more about the kingdom and the secrets that continued to be uncovered. The back and forth storytelling between Jane and Raven allowed myself as the reader to gain more insight into both sides of the curse.
Ever Cursed was good. It was slow but it was good. Now let's talk about The characters. Reagan was so interesting, I understand her reasoning for placing the Curse of Without on Jane, Nora, Alice, Grace, and Eden but I always thought she should have placed a curse on the king. Jane was actually a really good character some might say she was my favorite in the book I mean the girl hasn't eaten in five years and she still has the strength to get out of bed she's better than me. The royals of all the other kingdoms are straight pieces of shit on fire. When Reagan and the sisters were trying to go back to the castle all the royals frickin ganged up on them and assaulted them, they also said to Reagan keep the princesses cursed let them so they can't say no to use. Last but most definitely not least the damn king, he is straight garbage I hate him as should you hate the father that was ok with letting his daughters die for the kingdom's gain, and it was even for the kingdom it was for himself and his selfish ass. All I have to say to the royals of the other kingdoms and the "good" king is fuck you.

This book definitely should come with a trigger warning for rape and other adult themes. I really enjoyed this new take on witches and the weight spells bare interesting concept of sacrifice in that regard. Overall it was a good read, the ideas were new and fresh.

Such a unique story! Corey Ann Haydn never fails to create such interesting worlds. I really enjoyed the characters as well. This is one of those rare books where I almost wanted it to be split into more than one book. I loved the world and the history, but I wanted more.
