Great series! I enjoyed Hale's writing, and loved the adventures I had with Miri throughout the trilogy! This one had some fun twists!
Miri has been tasked by the King and Queen to go to a swampy area of the kingdom to teach the royal cousins how to be proper princesses. Unfortunately when she arrives she finds that the girls have been so focused on staying alive and finding enough to eat that they don’t have any time to worry about non-essential things like deportment, history, or reading. Miri knows the girls should have been getting a stipend from the King and Queen, so where is the money going and can Miri get it back? Someone is controlling the mail, the money, and Miri’s letters pleading for help. She is on her own in a place so different from her mountain home that it seems like she’s already failed before she can even start. Can Miri fix all these problems teach the royal cousins and unravel the mysteries that have been long hidden in the swamp? This was an astounding end to a series that I wish didn’t have to end. For those who have read the other two and can’t wait to read more set in this world.
I loved the first Princess Academy, the second was ok, and this third might have been my favorite of the series, but it has been years since I read the first. The story started a little slow, but has a great mystery and plot twist that I was not expecting. Plus some deeper themes, like the way girls are often viewed as incapable but can prove others wrong, which is definitely a theme I can get behind.

What can I say? I loved this book so much! It was amazing! The ending was definitely not what i expected but I loved it either way. A great end to an awesome trilogy.

I really enjoyed this final installment. It does a lot for the world-building, and expands on the manipulative politics introduced in the second book. I did question at first how this one would connect to the overall plot, but by the end I was fully in.
Emotionally, this one is packed. There's a lot going on with manipulation tactics, war, and especially old hurts resurfacing. But I felt the romance aspect and Miri's mentor relationship with the new characters did a fairly good job balancing it out.
Despite how complex and heavy the plot turned out to be, I did find myself satisfied by the ending. Maybe there could've been more emotional resolution for a couple of characters? But it didn't throw off how I felt about the book as a whole. I was always happy to pick this book up, even with the more serious material elements it dealt with.
I definitely loved the cultural expansion into the swamp, and the magic system's foray into still more detail. The olive branch themes really brought the series home for me. A very enjoyable ending to a very enjoyable series.

Having Miri be isolated from the rest of the main characters for the majority of the story made the book drag. The big reveal was also slightly disappointing. The epilogue was the best part.
