This was an enjoyable read for the most part, though it was probably not the best life choice, in terms of the constantly thrumming anxiety in the back of my mind, to continue reading this after being exposed to covid. I couldn't always make sense of the way chapters transitioned into each other and the book did end somewhat abruptly. But I did learn things!

A great simplified look at disease history. While the impact of politics was a bit light, this book would be a great starter book for someone showing interest in microbes, and medicine.

I listened to this book and it was interesting, but I wasn’t excited to listen even though this is a subject that typically engages and fascinates me. I don’t know if it was the narration style or the writing style, but it just never hooked me in and made me want to devour it as I expected it would based on the subject matter. If Goodreads allowed half stars, I would give this 3.5 stars.
