This is a work of genius! I couldn’t be happier that I chose to listen to the audiobook so I could hear all the names and places pronounced correctly. What a beautiful, crucial story and what incredible writing and construction. Isabella Hammond blew me away!

Profound. Deeply moving. A must-read. This book has been a balm and reminder that art is resistance. It has rekindled my love for Hamlet in ways I didn't realise were possible. I am so grateful this book exists.

This book has been an incredible surprise. The smooth and narrative style guides reader through deep questions andof cultural, social and historical challenges of being an oppressed Palestinian in the West Bank. Emotions and interior conflicts are described through the protagonist and characters. The staging of the play brings many different figures in the West Bank to work together to express dissent where censorship is the norm. No book was more timely to read than this one since the start of the Gaza Conflcit at the end of 2023. The books gives more context behind historical facts around 1948 occupation than all the newspaper articles and essays we have been reading. Best book of this year so far.

This book is the perfect combination of a superbly compelling story, absolutely gorgeous sentences, vivid, physical descriptions of setting, and characters about whom I keep worrying and wondering after reading the last page.

I thought about Wael pretending to be a soldier, and wondered if there was something especially subversive about that here, in a military state, where the soldier is a sacred figure, an image in their ideology as olive trees are in ours. When they look at their soldiers, they see sons and daughters. When we look at their soldiers, our hearts also beat harder, although it is for different reasons.

Is Teta referring to the Nasirs in particular or to all Palestinians? Must every Palestinian story be a family story?

A beautiful blend of the resistance of art and an everyday look at the lives of those under occupation, plus I love anything to do with Hamlet so it was extra special to me
