As a fan of the original Sherlock Holmes stories, I did not think I would enjoy these books. Now I find myself quite hooked and am even going to reread the originals as it has been a while since I first read them.
Not my favourite of the series, but not as bad as some of the other reviews would suggest! No, don't start the series here. No there's not much Sherlock and Mary together. Yes, you'll probably get the most out of this if you've (recently) read Hound of the Baskervilles. But then I haven't read the next books in the series yet, so I'll withold judgment on whether I could have just skipped it without missing any character/relationship development.
Great book, as always, from this author. This is one of my favorite series!
Still love the series, but this one was a bit slower than the last two...
The 4th Maru Russell mystery revisits the scene of the famous Hound of the Baskervilles. I wasn't as into this one as the previous stories--it took a while to get going, and it felt a little bit lazy, cribbing from a previous Holmes story--but it was still a fun read. B.
When one reads reviews, always take them with a grain of salt. (Mine included then I guess!) Some of the top reviews of The Moor are rather sarcastic. Undeserving in my opinion.
This was actually my second reading of The Moor and it was just as good as the first (which I admit was only 10 months ago). All things aside, Mary Russell and Sherlock Holmes embark on a journey to find what is wrong with the Moor, and once again it LRK presents the reader with excellent writing, occasionally slow but never dull adventure, and an explosive finalè.
On a side note, if you are a fan of Sherlock Holmes and have never read Mary Russell you really should. She’s as close to cannon as I’ve found.

I do not know, I guess I expected more from this book than what I got because of the nature of Sherlock returning to the Moor, the setting for Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's finest Holmes epic, the famous Hounds of the Baskervilles. It was a adequate mystery at best. Do better next time Laurie.
Not the best... There's a lot of time spent wandering the dreary moor and the series is getting predictable. This one made me wonder if I'll keep reading the Mary Russell books.
