The mother of all thrillers, that’ll grip you as tightly as the craziest kind of Smother!

There’s a reason TM Logan is referred to as the king of “up all night thrillers” and The Mother is the perfect example. What a totally pressing and unputdownable read! I was immediately sucked into Heather’s world and was drawn to her predicament. Logan is a master at building danger, suspense and utterly thrilling tension, meaning I couldn’t tear myself away from listening to this. I really enjoyed the style, which sees the story told from Heather’s present day, post-prison perspective, plus flashback chapters from the night of the murder, the immediate aftermath and the run up to Heather’s conviction. This worked beautifully to leave breadcrumbs of the truth throughout the narrative, giving readers an opportunity to try and figure out the truth. Needless to say, the final revelations were shocking and totally unexpected. Logan really knows how to stick the knife of tension in and twist it up to agonising levels! Gemma Whelan’s narration is pitch perfect and she really captures the desperation and sheer determination in Heather. She imbues each character with their own distinct personality and the story is brought vividly to life. Listening to this audiobook whilst driving is 100% a hazard! There’s so many gasp out loud moments that are delivered impeccably through the narration, I had to stop myself slamming on the brakes, jaw dangling!

As well as being a smash hit thriller, this book is also laden with emotion. It cuts right to the core of what it means to be a family. This book is just as much about the power of a mother’s love, the unbreakable bond between children and their mother and the strength of friendship in lieu of family. Heather’s devotion to her sons is unyielding and gives a plausibility to the action-packed events within the narrative. Heather is a woman pushed to the extreme, but her love for her children is even more extreme, meaning I totally believed she would do everything she does in this book to get them back. The other aspect of this book that I really enjoyed was the bond between Heather and her roommate Jodie. They come from vastly different backgrounds, but are united over the loss of their children due to their prison sentences. I really enjoyed their dynamic and Logan is very clever at always keeping the reader unsure as to whether we can trust Jodie. This added to the tension and as the final conclusion came round, their relationship comes to an emotional crescendo. Similarly, the relationship Heather forms with journalist Owen (someone who has always been dubious of her conviction) adds another layer to the proceedings. Through their bond, Heather starts seeing a future again and a way to restart her life after prison. Lots of themes are explored throughout the narrative, from political corruption and exploitation of privilege to fighting injustice and undying hope. There’s a real heart and humanity to this novel, which blends really well with the danger and thrills. It was genuinely unputdownable and demonstrates exactly why TM Logan is an author at the top of his game.

Thank you NetGalley and Bonnier Books Uk for a copy of “ The Mother ” by T.M Logan in return for my honest review.
I know when I start one of T.M. Logans books I’m going to be in for a very late night and this one was no exception. Right from the start it had me gripped and the story continued at break neck speed with plenty of red herrings to keep you guessing. This is my favourite book of T.M Logans so far I highly recommend reading it you definitely won’t be disappointed.

Heather and Liam have a good life with two beautiful sons. However, since Liam became involved in politics, they hardly see each other.
The book begins with Heather attending a funeral. Her two sons are there but she hides in the shadows unable to reveal that she is there.
Ten years previously, after arguing with Liam, Heather goes to bed and, when she gets up in the morning, her life has changed in ways she couldn't have imagined.
She will do anything to protect her sons but what price will she pay trying to get them back.
An excellent book which I would happily have read in one sitting.
#Pigeonhole

An intense and compelling thriller that preys on your worst nightmare scenarios.
The main character stumbles upon her husband murdered and sue not she is under the spotlight for being the perpetrator. She is (almost) certain she did not commit the murder plus she is haunted by the fact that her last conversation with him was an argument and the argument was based on fears he was betraying her.
She is sent down for the murder and thus separated from her beloved sons and her life has spiralled out of control. Upon release she or not fare much better as her parole conditions prevent her access to her sons or to those ho can help her prove her innocence.
There is an eclectic mix of the criminal underworld, politics and family secrets an loyalties together with a healthy serving of red herrings along the way.
A truly edgy and compelling tale which kept me riveted throughout. Excellent.
