ੈ✩‧₊˚ I was never going to possess her, of course. I would never get to taste her skin or hear the sweetness of a moan from her lips. But if I couldn't have the real Carmilla, I would settle for an illusion of my own design.
I'm sadly starting to think that a dowry of blood was a one hit wonder for me because the other 2 books I have read from S.T. Gibson have been 3 star reads.
This one lacked the atmosphere that I wanted, it had little sultriness and mysteriousness for the vampires and the setting. The "plot" if you can call it that was incredibly weak with the ending feeling rushed and flat. I don't mind books that are no plot just vibes but this had no plot and no vibes...
The characters, Carmilla, Laura and Ms D were underwhelming to me, I wanted them to jump off the page with chemistry and tension but instead I felt very little for these characters.
I think this book could have been more, should have done more. I love Carmilla, so was incredibly excited for this retelling but unfortunately it seems to be another forgettable read.

An education in malice was my first book from S.T. Gibson and I feel so torn! I couldn’t put it down, it was such a creepy and atmospheric story that had me totally hooked. But it felt quite predictable and didn’t quite have the depth I think I wanted from this kind of story. I loved the dual POV and the narrator is great at distinguishing between the two characters so I didn’t have trouble following the audiobook which is great! I will read from the author again I just think this felt a little like a YA story with intimate scenes not like the adult book I was after.
