The first 70% of this book was gripping and the plot was exciting - definitely resembled it's predecessor. However, after that it went a bit downhill before pretty much descending into utter madness for a bit. There were some whacky plot twists (not sure how we went from spy thriller to time travelling to zombie apocalypse) followed by a rather rushed ending, which was a shame.
hmmm. really enjoyed the first half of this one - it was really fast paced and felt like the sort of action stuff I'd read a lot when i was younger, everything seemed to link together in a way that was really nice and it kept me entertained for a good few days.
It then descended into bad fanfiction levels of madness and all got a bit absurd and plot holey. not quite sure how we went from spy mystery into time travel and zombies?? epilogue helped it ever so slightly get back to normality but the damage was done tbh
also why was it so long my guy really should've just chopped off the whole second half. also no character development they were so 2D

To be honest 3 stars is generous . Everything was going fine and dandy , as expected as any well written spy thriller could be . I was engrossed I couldn’t put it down and then somewhere around page 360 the whole thing leads of some dirty wild course and it just made me confused and angry .
The reason I loved I am pilgrim was because of how detailed and realistic the story was , I believed it could happen and it made sense . But I’m sorry at the point of time travelling submarines , battling orcs and asteroid spores I almost gave up on this one .
What the hell happened , I know it took seven years to write but it feels like the author gave up decided to write another genre and novel and somehow merge it back into the original story . I’m sorry, no , it didn’t work for me and the end didn’t redeem it for me either .

The first 400 pages or so had me gripped and it was shaping up to be an easy 4 star thriller ideal for a holiday then out of nowhere shenanigans were introduced that really brought the tone of the book down for me. Then the conclusion was rushed into about 20 pages which honestly could have been expanded on instead of what occurred in the proceeding 100 or so pages.
I consistently rate books quite high because if I’m not enjoying them I just don’t finish them.
But this book. Wow. I have never read another book that take such a sharp left turn 3/4s in.
For the first 3/4 solid spy book. Little bit of weirdness with some premonitions but solid.
Then suddenly it’s a time travelling submarine and alien invasion via spores - that just coincidentally happen at the same time. There is a failure of explain, or attempt to explain, a large host of coincidences. Some characters believe what I think most people would think is a totally bizarre tale with uncharacteristic rapidness.
Whilst the first part is well fleshed out, this last part lacks depth in places where it would have been well served.
Overall, I’m just left thinking this was a very weird experience!
