This Christmas rom com is not just a fluffy rom com. This book is about fear, and failure, and love. The MC has generalized anxiety disorder, and the scenarios are spot on. I can see how people that don’t have depression and anxiety might find Ellie insufferable, but this is actually what it feels like for us ALL the damn time. We feel like a frozen burrito.

I love Ellie’s inner monologues mixed with the witty banter dialogues. The author is an English teacher, and it shows. The best writing I have seen in a romance. Bonus points for a solid music soundtrack that I feel the need to create a Spotify playlist of.

Well the main character POV was a bit annoying, some scenes and dialogue were a bit cringe (the mistletoe scene?? Wtf IYKYK) and cliché, and the little conflicts were a bit eye-rolley but Jack??? Yes please!

Reread #1 -

Yeah slaps just as hard the second time and was a nice Christmas-time read

This was so damn cute - and leagues better than the charmed offensive! This was just such a well-done christmasy romance that struck a good balance for having those cheesy Christmas romcom vibes with a whole lot of heart that kept it from feeling shallow or cliche.

And honestly who doesn’t love a good fake relationship plot, and it was fun to see a different take on that situation where the fake relationship wasn’t ever going to be endgame.

I also loved Anthony and Dylan and I’d adore a book telling their love story! It’s so rare to see a cis man X NB relationship and while those identities had little to do with their story (especially considering they’re only side characters in this book) it was still a nice dynamic to see!

All in all, this might not enter the ranks of the best queer books I’ve ever read but it’s definitely a good book that I’d happily reread! It would also make a wonderfully fun Christmas movie so Netflix ? Get on that will you.

It is good that this book exists, because a lot of people will feel seen reading it, but I did not enjoy it. It felt exhausting and frustrating to read.
