I can't articulate this book. Mainly because it articulates the power of ideology (this is defo an understatement) in such a clever way - a way that only art can.
I've also loved a book about a haunting, ghosts, creepy houses and horror. This book has all of that and a modern weird writing that I love.
It's made me think about privilege and facism in a new way and it's done this though horror themes I love - couldn't ask for much else really.

i honestly don't know how i felt about this book . i was not a fan of the writing style . it was super confusing at parts . i also didn't buy the fact that alice and ila just left the house okay ? the book kept me interested to know what happens , but i also just wanted it to be over . i can , however , appreciate the life lessons throughout the book . i'm glad i read it , i just don't think it was for me .

okay actually i had to go back and reread the last few chapters because i kept asking myself who’s who and what’s even happening. the plot twist kept twisting until the very end unsettled but also strangely impressed by how it all came together. this book is so graphic and uncomfortable to read! the way trauma and violence are written is brutal and hard to stomach, yet somehow still unhinged and thought provoking
some parts were just too much, almost like information overload, and at times so disturbing that my brain was screaming at me to skip them. it’s not an easy read by any means, but it definitely left me with a lot to think about

A chilling, unsettling read that uses gothic horror to explore transphobia, racism, trauma, and the rise of fascism. Tell Me I'm Worthless is clever, layered, and deeply uncomfortable and it's meant to be. I was genuinely on edge for the majority of the book, which isn't something I can say about most contemporary horror books. The haunted house at its centre comes to symbolise the violence and hatred that can take root in society and in individuals.
This book uses gothic tropes to portray the trans experience in society. It's a little heavy-handed at times, but in a way that feels powerful and deliberate. It would be wrong to call this an enjoyable read, but it's unforgettable and brilliantly written. A tough, important book that will linger with me for a long time.

I had a whole review for this but I will settle with: it tried, and it missed.
Obscene for the sake of it. If I could give this book zero stars I would.
