The story was a good one, although it felt like it dragged a bit, and to be completely honest, I was annoyed with Becky and the way that she blamed Miguel for their breakup.

Becky and Miguel are high school sweethearts, and when Miguel leaves to college and asks Becky to go with him, she says she can't leave home. To be fair, she has a very valid reason as to why she can't leave with him, the only problem is that she never told Miguel this reason. I honestly think this story has the worst case of miscommunication I have ever read, and to prove my point we later have Becky walking away from Miguel and their relationship of years because of a misunderstanding without even giving Miguel a chance to explain himself.

I usually love second chance romance, but I honestly feel like there was a lot of unnecessary heartbreak, mostly because of lack of communication. I'm not usually one to get bothered by this, but this time it was just too much.

Unfortunately, I feel like the narrators didn't do the story justice. I personally don't mind dual narration, but in this case it was difficult to follow along without mixing up the characters, and at one point one of the narrators used a female voice for a male character's dialog.

I was really excited to dive into this book. I love a second chance romance at times. We get dealt a lot of emotions between Rebecca and Miguel and it does get a bit intense. There were moments that I wanted to yell at both of them. Lots of ups and downs happen between these two as they are thrown together due to a mutual friend's wedding. It gets raw and emotional between these two as they are trying to navigate that past and move into the future. I struggled a bit with the read but overall, it was a decent read.

Loved this second chance romance. Miguel and Rebecca find themselves in the same town again and all their feelings for one another are hard to forget. I enjoyed reading their lifetime story of love for each other and their families. Trigger: deals with a parent with Alzheimer’s This is my honest review. I am a lucky ARC reader.

A good friends to lovers, second chance, small town romance

This was a new to me author and I'm glad I gave it a try. It was well written with barely any errors and I enjoyed the plot and characters.
The MMC is a broody, sexy football player who goes to play football after a big fight with his dad, who wasn't happy he was leaving his small town and ranch to play football.
The FMC is a mentally and emotionally strong and independent woman who has taken up the responsibility of her family.
The leads were childhood friends and high-school sweethearts but distance and other circumstances meant they couldn't last soon after Miguel left.
Miguel returns for his best friends wedding and they can't help but run into each other again in their small town and the attraction was just as strong. But things are just as complicated as before and there are secrets that would change everything.
The story started off as well-paced but during the last third of the book it felt like it started to drag just a little. And there parts that I felt were a repetitive but overall was a good read and I look forward to the next book of the series.

There are some sensitive topics in this book so make sure you read your trigger warnings before jumping in.

This is a small town, second chance romance between Miguel who is now an NFL rookie and Rebecca his best friend/ ex-girlfriend. Three years ago they broke up and now their other best friends are getting married. Rebecca is the maid of honor and Miguel is the best man- so much for not having to see each other ever again.

Miguel not only didn’t want to come back because of Rebecca, but also his family. So we see him finding himself and growing so much in this story. His character development is absolutely amazing.

Rebecca also has some serious character development. She is so stubborn and never ask for help. Her home life has been falling apart around her. All while she needs to run her bookstore and deal with her ex being back in town… a small nosey town.

I absolutely could not get enough of this book. I was honestly so sad when it ended. Their friendships, their other relationships with family, and their relationship between themselves was just so interesting to follow.

“Don’t let the fear of loosing the people you love stop you from living your life fully.”

Immediate thoughts:
Emotional and angsty second chance story.
My first book by this author, but I will definitely go back and read her previous books.

Tropes:
Small town, second chance, football, childhood friends to lovers, forced proximity.

ARC review:
I really went through a whole range of emotions reading this one. It was clear from the get-go that Rebecca and Miguel are meant to be, but the road they went on to get their HEA was a bumpy one with challenges, misunderstandings but a lot of love.

Miguel returned to his hometown for a wedding where he was the best man and Rebecca was the maid of honor. This led to them having to be together again after breaking up - and the forced proximity was really lovely and lead to some strong push and pull.

Miguel has only ever loved Rebecca and only her, and while he had a troubled relationship with his dad when he left for college, he was determined to make it work with Rebecca. However, something happened, and they broke up. There were seriously strong ‘it’s always been you’ vibes and I was so here for it! However, both characters were also very stubborn, Rebecca especially. The whole reason for the breakup infuriated me a bit but given their ages and the other challenges they faced I got over it, and it also really added another layer to their story and the complexity of the characters. I was also a bit frustrated with Rebecca at times, but mostly my heart just ached for her with all she had been through and how strong she is.

I loved the flashbacks in this story where we saw their relationship when they were kids/teenagers. It added some emotional depth to the story and gave a more complete picture of the deep connection they share and the love they clearly have for each other! When they finally gave in, it was so beautiful and I just love how much they care for each other and got to know each other so very well once again.

Why did it take me so long to read Anna B. Doe? I'm not sure, but after It Should Have Been Us, I know I have to catch up. She drew me in with this second chance, enemies to lovers, and small-town romance, and now I can't get enough of her characters. I need their stories (some are already available, others will come soon...)

This book is angsty and goes back and forth between the present and the past. NFL player Miguel Fernandez returns to Bluebonnet Creek for his best friend's wedding. He hasn't set foot there since he left for college four years ago. The first night he is in town, he sees Rebecca, his former best friend/high school sweetheart and the one person who broke his heart.

She hates him and tries everything to avoid him. But they are soulmates, and everyone knows it. When they finally give in, they agree to keep their relationship casual. After all, Miguel will leave after the wedding to resume his NFL career. Rebecca's life is anchored to the town, her business, and her family.

As their story develops, more details about their relationship and what led to their breakup are revealed. It's easy to blame Rebecca for it. But the truth is that they were young, and she had a lot on her plate. And while they are older and wiser, they are still in their early 20s. Anna B. Doe captures perfectly what this entitles, to the point that it took me back in time, making me think about my first "serious" love.

I'm excited about what is to come, and I can't wait to go back to Bluebonnet Creek.

I adore second chance books, so I was very excited to read this. The tension in this story is so palpable. I ate it right up.

High school friends turned sweethearts Miguel and Rebecca both have had difficult lives. Miguel‘s father is demanding and controlling, and Rebecca takes on a lot of responsibility for her mother and brother.

Miguel loves football and has a natural talent. However, his father thinks it is a waste of time and forbids Miguel from going to college to play it. But since Miguel got a full scholarship, based on football, he goes anyway, which prompts his father to tell him not to come back home. Ever.

Miguel tries to persuade Rebecca to transfer to his college so they could be together but she declines and the two break up less than a year later.

Now, four years half passed, and Miguel is playing football professionally and has returned home reluctantly to be part of his friend Emmett’s wedding. Rebecca is still in town, stubborn as always. With these two working closely together for the wedding, will they reconnect?
