I got really bored with all of the detailed descriptions of opulence. The ending was lovely though a slog for most of the rest.
I'm way behind here. I definitely watched the movie 1st and loved it. And the book felt like it was truly represented well in it. The audiobook was long but it was fun and full of drama.

Full of larger than life characters, this novel charts the path of 2 young lovers through the prejudices and snobbery of jet-set Singaporeans. The main characters are likeable, made more likeable by their flaws. The rest of the cast, well, there are some horrific characters that are well crafted.
This book was an enjoyable read. The plot is well paced, if predicatable. In my opinion it would have benefitted from a bombshell moment or two, a real cliff-hanging chapter-end moment. Some great descriptions of food in there too! I often finished my train journeys feeling hungry after reading this....
