When the realization comes, the sadness spools out of you unbidden. God. This one was hard to read. I stared at the wall for awhile — and then I sobbed. Knowing that things like this happened and still happen all the time, is really disturbing and upsetting. I’ll think about this for a long time to come.

I really don't enjoy this sort of fiction. I only read this for the achievement on goodreads, and this looked interesting and it was on KU. So I figured I'd give it a go. I'm not a thriller lover, I'm in need of romance and happiness to really make myself go through the days and weeks. Thrillers just do not do it for me.
The concept is really interesting, all these under ground tunnels really fascinate me. I've heard of these before in somewhere in Canada I believe but I've not come across these in fiction either and I think that helped me at the beginning because it was clear this was a big part.
The outcome of this, I saw her dad being part of this, I think its was obvious that shes going to get dragged into it one way about this. I struggled with the historical aspect of this book. We're not talking 1800's but 1970, not my favourite era. At all.
Overall I'm pleased with myself that I gave this a go but I really don't think I'm the reader for this book. Blame GR and my need to collect all the reading achievements!!

Marking this as DNF because I couldn't even make it through the first chapter. Normally I wouldn't even put that on my goodreads, but I want to make sure I never accidentally pick it up again.
I had a hard time putting this coming of age thriller down! It is a quick read with short chapters and different POVs. It’s also twisty and dark, just the way I like it.
I had lots of feelings while reading this story; anger, frustration, and disgust. I know a book is well written when it takes me on a rollercoaster of emotions.
Reaching that part of childhood where you start to see the nastiness of people is hard to process. It was hard seeing Heather realize not everyone you love is as innocent as they seem. I was rooting for the girls the whole time!
I loved the setting of this book as well; a town where all the houses are connected by an underground tunnel system is brilliant and creepy. I can definitely imagine kids using the tunnels as their own personal playground.
If you like a fast-paced, small town drama, kidnapping/murder story, you will like this book.
