Huh. A lot happened and then it didn't. I'd say overall an enjoyable Sunday spent, but not the best he's ever written.

As always, this author never disappoints.

Secondhand Souls is one of my favorite reads so far this year. Not only because it makes me nostalgic for a time long passed but because every single character in this novel is obscenely hilarious. Especially Sophie.

Yet, the highlight of this novel for me was probably Mint Fresh. I loved Minty in book one and I loved him a million times more. His character development was very well done, as was the little peak into his past. (I’d kill to read a book centered around him!) I especially loved having his history being linked with the Egyptian mythology.

(Anybody who knows me, knows I’m a sucker for mythology so the introduction of Egyptian mythology was a nice surprise that I had not expected.)

The singular complaint I have about this book is that the climax wasn’t as big and dramatic as I needed it to be. Otherwise it was done really well for a sequel to my favorite childhood novel and I couldn’t really ask for a better ending for some of my favorite characters ever to be put on a page.

A nice sweet visit with some good old fictional friends, hilarious at times and heartbreaking at others. Don't read this if you haven't read A Dirty Job, and go read that instead right now. Go! What are you waiting for? Once you've finished it you'll be back here to enjoy Secondhand Souls in due course anyhow.

Secondhand Souls is laugh out loud funny at times with unique characters and a clever plot. A high 3 star book.

While still funny, this was not as good as the first part of the series. I don't think this story needed a second volume when I first heard about it and having read it I think I was proven correct. Not bad by any means, Moore would have to try hard to make a noticeably BAD book, but it more just screams "why bother?"

I couldn't imagine where Christopher Moore was going with this, the sequel to my favorite of his novels. Having just re-read A Dirty Job a few weeks ago, I thought he'd wrapped things up pretty thoroughly with his "where are they now" epilogue. But it's Moore and there's magic and ghosts and the Underworld and Celtic demons and hellhounds so all bets were off.

Secondhand Souls takes up shortly after the events of the first book and immediately stands most of Dirty Job on its head. It's classic crazy mystery/suspense/horror from Moore, running at breakneck pace and requiring more than a little suspension of disbelief--because it's all fun even when it's gotten a little scary. If it doesn't equal the first book that's because A Dirty Job introduced readers to an entirely fresh (even Minty Fresh) premise and Secondhand Souls simply picks up the threads.

I loved it.
